Cleveland Cavaliers Proud

$32

Austin Carr. Mark Price. LeBron James. Before those men became regulars on the highlight reel, there was Nick Mileti, the man responsible for the Wine and Gold tradition.

Often forgotten when it comes to Cleveland sports is Nick Mileti, a lawyer by trade who responded to The Land’s yearning for professional sports by first acquiring the Cleveland Barons hockey team before landing an NBA expansion team for Cleveland to the tune of $3.7 million of his own personal money. Following a city-wide “Name the Team” competition sponsored by local newspaper the Plain Dealer, and the recruitment of head coach Bill Fitch, the Cavaliers tipped off in 1970. Pay homage.
