From 1969 through 1971 the Toledo Rockets football team went an astounding 35-0, a record that included a three-peat performance in the Tangerine Bowl and ranks as the second longest undefeated streak in Division I-A football. And it helped to have starting quarterback Chuck Ealey, who throughout his college AND high school career never experienced a loss, going 65-0.
The streak, which spanned two coaches—the legendary Frank Lauterbur and his predecessor, John Murphy—featured arguably the Rockets two most talented players, Ealey on offense and his counterpart, College Football Hall of Fame defensive tackle Mel Long Sr. The three seasons added to the haul of conference titles, a total sitting at 13 as of 2015. Don the Midnight Blue and Gold and gear up to add another undefeated season to the record books.
