Summer of '82 Raglan

Color: Grey/Wine

  • Grey/Wine

With a backdrop of suburban Columbus, the all-things-80s sitcom “Family Ties” mined the changing attitudes of the Reagan era for comedy gold during its seven-season run on NBC (1982-89).

The sitcom’s humor arose from the opposing perspectives of baby boomer parents Steven and Elyse Keaton and their Generation X children, Alex, Mallory and Jennifer. Fulfilling the sitcom’s tagline, “hip parents, square kids,” the show captured the cultural move away from the 1960s hippie lifestyle and toward an obsession with wealth, the economy and the general materialism synonymous with the 80s.

No one embodied the Wall Street mentality more than uber-conservative Alex. P. Keaton (Michael J. Fox), whose heroes were Friedman, Nixon and Reagan. To honor the show’s Ohio setting, we’ve faithfully recreated the raglan that Fox wore in the opening credits. Even though Alex had his heart set on Princeton and wound up at the fictional Leland University, he’s always been and always will be an Ohio boy at heart.
