I’m Ryan Vesler and I’m ready to be a star.

Well, not really. I’ll explain.

Back in college at Ohio University (Go Bobcats!), before HOMAGE was even a sparkle in my eye, people used to tell me they thought I looked like John Mayer. I laughed it off: “What?! That’s ridiculous!”

When someone tells us we look like someone else, it's hard to see it, and my case was no different. I definitely didn’t see it. Besides, there was no way I looked ANYTHING like John Mayer...I was way handsomer. Just kidding. Even though my well-meaning OU buddies may have been a little stoned at the time, the comparison stuck with me. John Mayer is pretty dreamy, you know. Who wouldn’t want to look like him?

Fast forward to the summer of 2018. Several old friends reached out to me with an urgent message: You really need to check out the new John Mayer video.

Why?

Because the Internet had just exploded with a video of the real John Mayer dancing around in front of a green screen. The creative tour-de-force depicts Mayer dancing like a total goofball while wearing vintage “MC Hammer” pants and singing a catchy tune about a lady friend seeing him in a “new light”. (For those who follow John Mayer, the video serves not only as a reminder of his musical talent, but as further proof of his one-of-a-kind irreverence, creativity, and willingness to step out of the box).

The other reason I really needed to see this music video? I’ve been known to rock similar dance moves (though I'm not quite as agile as the real John Mayer, of course) and am ALSO known to have several pairs of “MC Hammer” pants kicking around my wardrobe.

Weird.

The comparison was so eerie, one friend could only exclaim: “WHY IS JOHN MAYER INSIDE YOUR HEAD?!!!” I watched it on YouTube for the first time. And then a second time. And a third. And so on. After a week spent on several hundred (thousand?) repeat views and very little real work done, I realized there was only one path forward from here: “Go John Mayer or go home”.

So with the help of some amazing creative thinkers at HOMAGE (you know who you are!), we set out to find our very own “new light”. If you take a step back and look at the evolution of HOMAGE, our growth is easy to see: we aren’t just the fan shop outfitting you for the big game anymore. We're also crafting super-soft, super-awesome BLANK tees, sweatshirts, sweatpants, hats and more. We call them “GO-TOs”.

And when it comes to our new GO-TOs, we're asking you to take a closer look to see that evolution for yourself. Like the song says: “if you wear ‘em just one night, you’ll see HOMAGE in a new light!”

Thank you to everyone who helped bring this music video to life, including Outsider Entertainment for putting up with my awful singing voice. It turns out that recording live in a music studio is a lot harder than I thought. And, lastly, a very special thank you to John Mayer for reminding everyone to always push creative boundaries, and for being a 64-color box of crayons in an 8-color box world.

Sincerely,

Ryan Vesler
