On January 10th 1984, actress Clara Peller stared down a giant hamburger bun that surrounded a not-so-giant hamburger and asked, "Where’s the beef?" The Wendy’s ad went as viral as it could in the mid-‘80s, appearing in TV shows, films, magazines, and even political campaigns. The 80-year-old Peller helped Wendy’s sales jump 31% worldwide in 1985, and the restaurant’s VP of communications said that "Clara accomplished as much in five weeks as we did in 14 and a half years."
