In the winter of 1979, as Larry Bird was leading undefeated Indiana State to the school’s only Final Four, janitor Tom Montgomery wrote “Indiana Has a New State Bird,” a three-minute country/polka romp that Montgomery envisioned as the soundtrack to a halftime show; listen closely and you can practically envision the cheerleaders rah-rahing around the grainy hardwood of the Hickory High gymnasium amid the song’s mid-tempo tuba-and-saxophone bounce.

Legal issues have buried the song for three decades, but HOMAGE is proud to provide the opportunity for Montgomery to finally take his bow.
