For 80 years, the “Baseball Palace of the World” stood at 35th Street and Shields Avenue in Chicago’s South Side, home to the White Sox and more than 6,000 major league games. Built on a former dump that Sox founder and owner Charles Comiskey bought in 1909, Comiskey Park was only the fourth concrete-and-steel stadium in the majors and had an initial seating capacity of 29,000, which expanded throughout the years to nearly 44,000 by the time it closed in 1990.
