Bob Prince, who called Pirates games from 1948 to 1975, was as famous for his basebeall acumen as his colorful “Gunnerisms,” the nicknames and catchphrases with which he peppered each broadcast. Perhaps no Gunnerism is more famous than “Chicken on the Hill with Will,” which Prince employed to announce a home run by first-ballot Hall of Fame leftfielder Willie Stargell, who owned a fried chicken restaurant in Pittsburgh’s Hill District and would award free chicken to patrons in the restaurant at the time of his home runs.
