    The Story
The first retailer of the original Apple I computer was a Bay Area-based personal-computer store called The Byte Shop. In the late '70s, Byte Shop owner Paul Terrell ordered 50 of the as-yet-unbuilt computers, paying $500 each upon delivery. Steve Jobs then took Terrell’s purchase order to a national electronic parts distributor and ordered the components necessary to build the machines. Jobs and Steve Wozniak and their skeleton crew spent day and night building and testing the computers and delivered to Terrell on time, and Jobs found a way to finance his soon-to-be multimillion-dollar company without giving away a single share of stock or ownership.
