The “New York Sack Exchange” was a clever pun reserved for the New York Jets’ front four in the early-to mid-1980s headlined by five-time Pro Bowler Mark Gastineau and his ceremonial “sack dance”. Along with teammates Joe Klecko, Marty Lyons and Abdul Salaam, the Jets D was earned its nickname in ’81, upon the Jets’ first playoff berth since 1969; a fan at Shea Stadium held up a bedsheet on which he’d scrawled “New York Sack Exchange” and a legend was born.
