In the early 1970s, a San Diego TV station commissioned a “wacky acrobatic chicken” for a commercial, and after a promotion distributing Easter eggs at the San Diego Zoo, the Famous Chicken was born.

The Chicken has appeared at over 500 Padres games over the years, and after co-starring in the Saturday morning children’s TV series The Baseball Bunch with Johnny Bench and Tommy Lasorda, the Miami Herald said "The Chicken may be the most gifted comic since Larry, Curly, and Moe."
