Virginia Tech's most popular fight song, "Tech Triumph," was composed in 1919 and first performed that fall, when V.P.I. met Washington and Lee University at the Fair Grounds in Lynchburg on Saturday, November 1st. Because there were problems obtaining uniforms for entire V.P.I. Corps, only the junior and senior classes, along with the band, were able to attend the game. The cadets paraded through the streets of Lynchburg, then boarded street cars for the trip to the Fair Grounds. Upon arriving at the grounds, the Corps formed a hollow square with the band in the center, playing the new song, which became official in 1920.
