The Annapolis, Maryland campus (affectionately dubbed “The Yard”) that houses the United States Naval Academy sits at the confluence of Chesapeake Bay and the Severn River (hence its 19th century name Fort Severn). Since 1848, the campus, which is nearly equidistant from Washington, D.C. and Baltimore, has grown from a ten-acre plot of land to a 340-acre campus that has been designated a National Historic Landmark.
