While most people remember the University of Houston for its Phi Slamma Jamma basketball teams of the ‘80s or the high-scoring run-and-shoot football offenses of the ‘90s, the 16-time national champion golf team is the Cougars’ true claim to fame. The team launched the professional careers of Fred Couples and Steve Elkington (among many others) and is one of the most successful college programs in history, with 19 conference championships and 44 All-Americans.
